Soil as an Environmental Reservoir for Baculoviruses: Persistence, Dispersal and Role in Pest Control
نویسندگان
چکیده
Baculoviruses are DNA viruses that can naturally control insects and form the basis for a range of biological insecticides. These occluded in crystalline protein matrix, occlusion body (OB), which favors their persistence environment until consumed by susceptible insect. This review presents evidence baculoviruses perfectly adapted to persist soil. In support this assertion, detailed is presented concerning stability virus OBs soil, mechanisms processes affect OB transport movement through soil layers, back host’s foodplant subsequent transmission. The reservoir interacts with host insect, biotic abiotic factors environment, all influence function reservoir. Agricultural practices conserve result improved pest control. also an overlooked source genetic diversity design baculovirus-based Finally, principal issues remain be elucidated highlighted, particularly reference those soil–baculovirus relationship impact on insect populations.

Broad spectrum chemical pest control agents have been widely regarded as ecologically unacceptable. Due to this opinion, there is the increased social pressure to reduce their use in the future and gradually replace them by biopesticides. Viruses of a few families are known to infect invertebrates, but only those belonging to the family Baculoviridae have been used for biocontrol of pests. They...
متن کاملBaculoviruses: Members of Integrated Pest Management Strategies
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) can be defined as “an ecologically based pest control strategy that relies heavily on natural mortality factors and seeks out control tactics that disrupt these factors as little as possible” (Flint & Bosch, 1981). IPM began to be applied because the extensive use of chemical insecticides show different types of environmental damages, as development of resistant...

Plant protection represents one of the strategies to fill the yield gap and to achieve food security, a key topic for India development. Analysis of climate risks for crops indicates that South Asia is one of the regions most exposed to the adverse impact on many plants that are relevant to inhabitants exposed to food safety risks. Furthermore, accumulation of pesticide residues in the aquatic ...
